Lisa Phenix
“Homegrown” (Fools of
the World Records 2005) Lisa's
debut record is a mix of country, folk, jazz, blues and pop - a wide
spectrum of all music here. Lisa's mining territory previously
covered by the likes of Nancy Griffith and Bonnie Raitt. Country
music is mixed in with some fine slower songs, especially the
excellent 'Losin' Your Good Woman Blues' with some brilliant guitar
work (no details of musicians available) on this copy. There's
plenty here to enjoy and the tempo never drops - by track 6 Lisa
takes on the blues 'Bad Blues' followed by some fine rockabilly pop
on 'Little Mama' . Lisa is covering ground we have all visited
before but the songs (lyrics & music) are good enough to allow
the listener to forget that. AR |
